Some couples exchange gifts. We collect memories.
Years ago, my husband Steve and I decided that instead of buying each other things throughout the year, we would invest in experiences. We choose adventures over possessions, believing the memories we make together will always outlast the things we could buy.
Those adventures have taken us to some of the world's most beautiful waters. We've snorkeled over the vibrant coral of the Barrier Reef in the Cayman Islands, stood on the breathtaking shores of Beef Island in Tortola, and watched the ever-changing blues of Baia delle Sirene on the shores of Lake Garda in Italy. Each destination left us with more than photographs—it left us with inspiration.
When I return to my studio, those memories become color palettes. The crystal-clear turquoise of the Caribbean, the deep sapphire blues, the emerald shallows, the soft sandy beaches, and the gentle movement of the water all find their way into my resin art. Every piece begins with a memory before it becomes a work of art.
Working with resin is much like working with the water itself. I can guide it, but I can never completely control it. The resin flows naturally, creating patterns that can never be duplicated. Just as no two waves are ever the same, no two pieces I create will ever be identical.
The photographs included with this piece were taken during our travels to the places that inspired these colors. They serve as a small glimpse into the moments that shaped its creation and remind us why we continue to choose experiences over things.
Thank you for allowing a little piece of our journey to become part of yours.
